Mr Hironori Shimojima is Executive Officer, Deputy Head of the Asia Pacific Division Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC). Based in Singapore, he is responsible for the governance, digitalization and sustainability agenda of the bank across the region.
Prior to this role, Mr Shimojima was Managing Director, General Manager, and Head of the Strategic Planning Department of Americas Division where his responsibilities encompassed strategic planning, corporate development and sustainability. During this time, he also held the role of U.S, Chief Financial Officer from April 2020 through September 2022.
Mr Shimojima began his career with the firm in Tokyo in 1994, with the Mita Branch in its Operations, Foreign Exchange, and Business Promotion Department. He joined the Capital Market Planning Department in 1997 and two years later, the Structured Finance Department, where he managed the securitization business.
He was seconded to the Real Estate Department of Goldman Sachs, Limited, in New York from October 2000 to October 2001. He was appointed Vice President and worked in the Structured Finance and Real Estate Finance Department, where he was in charge of originating real estate finance on a nonrecourse basis until April 2006.
In April of 2006, he was transferred to NY Branch where he was in charge of project financing and lease financing, and he remained in that role until 2008, when he was promoted to Senior Vice President and assigned to a special task force managing distressed loan portfolios. Mr Shimojima was promoted to Group Head of the Planning Department of the Americas in 2011.
In May 2014, Mr Shimojima returned to Tokyo as Group Head for the Credit and Invest Planning Department (CIPD), where he was responsible for credit risk management including new products and underwriting business. He was promoted to Joint General Manager for CIPD in April 2016. Beginning January 2017, Mr Shimojima joined the Corporate Risk Management Department in Tokyo, where he managed the enhancement of the risk appetite framework and stress testing. In 2018, he returned to the Investment Banking Unit in Tokyo as Joint General Manager for the Planning Department’s Financial Solutions Unit.
Mr. Shimojima has a Bachelor of Economics from The University of Tokyo.

Up to 20 finalists will be selected to pitch their solutions at the world’s gathering of policy, finance, and technology on 6 Nov 2024. The Grand Champion will be crowned at the FinTech Awards dinner on 7 Nov 2024.
