Foreign Affairs Specialist, U.S. Department of Energy

Stephanie Duran works as a Foreign Affairs Specialist for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and is currently on temporary detail to the U.S. Embassy in Singapore. She previously served as the Energy Attaché and Director of the DOE China Office at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing – her second tour in China for DOE. In this role, she was responsible for advancing U.S. national security and economic interests by supporting the development of DOE and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) policies, priorities, and initiatives with China. Before her assignment to Beijing, Stephanie served as the Deputy Director and Acting Director of the NNSA Office of Policy and Strategic Planning. In this position, she strengthened NNSA’s enterprise-wide strategic planning efforts and spearheaded a number of governance and management initiatives aimed at driving culture change across NNSA. Prior to that, Stephanie served as the Director for International and External Partnerships for the DOE Office of Carbon Management where she was responsible for bilateral and multilateral international partnerships with both the public and private sector on carbon capture and storage (CCS). Stephanie received a Bachelor of Science from The Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and a Master of Arts from the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University. She has studied Latin, French, Russian, and Chinese.
