Sang Kyun Cha is a professor, innovator, and an entrepreneur. He worked on three generations of commercialized in-memory database technology since he joined Seoul National University in 1992. In 2000, he founded Transact In Memory, Inc. with his vision of developing an enterprise in-memory database system called P*TIME (Parallel* Transact-In-Memory Engine). The company was acquired by SAP in late 2005. Post the acquisition, he led SAP’s secret research toward SAP HANA and took the role of one of two co-founding chief architects of SAP HANA until early 2014. Prof. Cha is also a founding director of Big Data institute and a dean of Graduate School of Data Science at Seoul National University. Prof. Cha actively coaches startup founders and consults with Silicon Valley venture capitals. Storm Ventures recently invited him as an executive venture partner.
