Archie Hesse is the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS) Limited – a wholly owned subsidiary of the Central Bank with the mandate to transform Ghana into an electronic payments society.
Prior to becoming CEO in 2012, Archie held the Projects and Business Development portfolio and led the implementation of number of interoperable digital infrastructures to digitize payments and promote digital financial inclusion in Ghana.
Under his leadership, GhIPSS commissioned a number of interoperable service platforms based on real-time rails namely: GhIPSS Instant Pay (GIP) an interbank account-to-account instant funds transfer service, and three(3) firsts in Africa namely; First platform level mobile money interoperability service, first National Universal QR code payment service and first Universal Bank-led mobile money service.
Archie is a member of Ghana’s Payment System Advisory Council. He also supports a number of countries in Africa to shape policy and strategy in progressing their national payment systems.
A physicist at heart, Archie spent over a decade in Logistics, Manufacturing then Sales and Marketing in the automotive industry working for the BMW Group, in Germany, the US, UK and South Africa.
