Peter joined the Bank for International Settlements in August 2023, as senior economist in the secretariat of the Committee on Payments and Markets Structures. Before joining the BIS, he served as a senior economist in the Payments Division of De Nederlandsche Bank and as associate professor of finance at VU University Amsterdam. Previously, he worked at the European Systemic Risk Board (short-term secondment, 2013), the European Commission (DG ECFIN; 2002-2005) and the Dutch Ministry of Finance (1996-2002). His research appeared in journals such as Economic Policy, Journal of Money, Credit and Bank and International Journal of Central Banking. He holds a PhD from the University of Reading.
