Managing Director, Head of Sustainability and Government Affairs, ASEAN, HSBC
Kelvin Tan is the Head of Sustainability and Government Affairs, ASEAN, for HSBC. Building on his previous role as the Head of Sustainable Finance & Investments, ASEAN, he now leads the bank’s sustainability and engagement strategy in the region. This includes overseeing the provision of sustainable finance and investments, and the development of innovative climate solutions and a digital economy. Kelvin also works closely with HSBC CEOs in ASEAN to engage with external stakeholders and create an enabling environment to support the bank's ASEAN growth strategy.
Kelvin represents HSBC in industry bodies, working groups and official ASEAN forums dedicated to the wider finance ecosystem building efforts. He chairs the IBF Sustainable Finance Industry Workgroup, co-leads Singapore Sustainable Finance Association’s Transition Finance Workstream, and is a Board Member of Pentagreen Capital, a debt financing platform dedicated to accelerating the development of sustainable infrastructure in Asia. Kelvin also actively contributes to other key initiatives including the Singapore Green Finance Centre, the Transition Credits Coalition (TRACTION), the MAS-IBF Sustainable Finance Job Transformation Map Steering Committee, and GFANZ APAC Network’s workstreams.
Kelvin Tan joined HSBC in 2009 and has held various senior leadership roles within the organisation. He was the Chief Executive Officer of HSBC in Thailand from 2015 to 2021, overseeing and growing HSBC’s Wholesale and Private Banking business in the country. During his tenure in Thailand, he also served as Chairman of the Association of International Banks in Thailand and was a founding member of the Thailand-United Kingdom business leadership council.
Prior to his role in Thailand, Kelvin held senior positions including Head of Commercial Banking in Singapore and Head of Large Corporates and Conglomerates in the Singapore Global Banking client management team.
Kelvin’s banking career spans over three decades, with a focus on corporates and MNCs across industries in Singapore and Asia Pacific. Before joining HSBC Singapore, he started his career with Citibank and had worked at JP Morgan and Société Générale.
Kelvin holds an MBA (Accountancy) degree from the Nanyang Technological University and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the National University of Singapore
