Advisor, Monetary and Capital Markets Department, International Monetary Fund
Tatsuya Sugiura is an Advisor at the Monetary and Capital Markets Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he focuses on digital currencies and cross-border payments. Prior to joining the IMF, Tatsuya built his career at Japan's Ministry of Finance (JMOF) and the Inter-American Development Bank. At JMOF, he served as Director responsible for cross-border financial regulations. He led key amendments to the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act to regulate crypto assets and stablecoins, and coordinated international financial sanctions. He was also a member of the inter-ministerial council on AML/CFT/CPF and oversaw Japan's policies at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
Tatsuya holds an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and a Master in Finance from the University of Cambridge.
