Prof Shreekant Gupta (Sam) is a leading global scholar, economist, policymaker and public intellectual on carbon trading, climate finance, climate change mitigation, and adaptation. He is former Professor at Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi and has also taught at LKY School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore and University of Maryland. He was Director, National Institute of Urban Affairs, New Delhi where he drafted the Master Plan for Delhi and the National Urban Renewal Mission. Prof Gupta has also worked as an economist in the Environment Department of the World Bank at Washington DC and been a consultant to ADB, OECD, UNDP and UNEP. He was a Lead Author of the 6th Assessment Report and Coordinating Lead Author of the 5th Assessment Report of the IPCC, which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for which his contribution was recognized.
Prof. Gupta has a PhD in Economics from the University of Maryland where his dissertation committee included the Nobel Laureate Thomas Schelling. He was a Fulbright Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Shastri Fellow at Queens University, Canada.
